•ONE OF THE DESTINATIONS POPULAR MA IN VENEZUELA
The abjetivos use to describe this space of pearly sands is short: their
beauty and splendor has stirred up the interest of people's thousands in
the last years who have taken a bath in the waters of this only and
unbeatable Archipelago.
Had Located to the north of Venezuela and taken a bath by the
crystalline waters of Caribbean Sea, the Archipelago Los Roques is a
Paradise of 225.153 hectares, with but of 40 keys the island of Gran
Roque and about 250 coralline reefs.

Latitude 11º 44' 26 '' and 11º 58' 36 '' N.
Longitude: 60º 36' 25 '' and 66º 57' 26 '' O.
It occupies an approximate extension of 1000 Km2 including the interior
waters. National park was declared
for ordinance N 1062, of the 09/08/1972, with an extension of 221.120
have. This inhabited one for about 900 inhabitants, of those which
approximately 600 are fixed residents in Gran Roque’s town and about 300
are fishermen margariteños seated by season in the Fernando island, with
about 70 fishermen, and the rest distributed in the islands Cayo Pirata,
Crasqui, Carenero, the Agustin Island and the Lunatic island. The
fishing but important resources are the lobster and the botuto. In the
last years it has been developed a lot like tourist center and in the
year 1992 were visited by some 10.000 people.
What captures the visitors of Los Roques, is the light that springs from
their pearly sands that each one of their corners glows, until the sky
gets dressed of elegance with the arrival of the Moon and the stars.
Here the words are short to describe a place of so much beauty that so
alone in the last four years it has been visited approximately for but
of seventy thousand people, transforming into one of the outstanding
destinations for the ecoturismo in the caribe and in the world.
National Park was declared August of 1972, 8 with the purpose of
protecting the ecosystems that exist in the Archipelago, as well as to
establish a rational and limited exploitation of its natural resources,
and in definitive, to guarantee the beauty of its translucent funds and
the great wealth that it inhabits its waters.

FOCUS GEOLOGIC
Los Roques possess a not very frequent structure
in Caribbean, well-known as atoll, with two external barriers formed by
coralline communities, which protect the Archipelago of the strong
currents and an internal lagoon of shallow waters and sandy funds.
The well-known formation as "Complex Granitic of the Gran Roque" it had
their origin during Superior Cretacico in igneous rocks, metamorfizadas
that today appears in the hills of this geographical point. Later on,
the marine currents and the activity producer of corals, mollusks and
other fauna groups and flora, they were in charge of of giving the stamp
and the greatness to this extraordinary place.
Fifty seven species of corals occupy Los Roques and they are their true
wealth, because the studies point out that the Ocean Atlantic possesses
the 35 and 40 percent of the entirety.
